Handwriting Without Tears is designed for grades K through 5. This unique program uses simple, easy to understand activities to help guide students through the correct formation of letters in both print and cursive. Black and white pages allow students to personalise by colouring the pictures and illustrations themselves. Workbooks are left- and right-hand friendly. Double lines make it easy for students to correctly write letters with the correct sizing.
The digital version offers videos, music, and animations to support instruction. You can customise the letter order and assign lessons remotely. Also available are wood pieces to capital letter formation, chalkboards, special pencils for small hands, and more!
Does the Job - Nothing Fancy
HWT is a decent handwriting curriculum. The font style is not the prettiest (especially cursive), however the letters are round and easy for little hands to learn. My son brought home the yellow book from school, and I just continued on and bought the teal book “Printing Power” afterwards. I don’t have any other curriculum to compare it to, but the pages are of good quality and the font is a good size for learners. I recommend buying a pencil grip if your child seems to be struggling. The pencil grip helped my son’s writing go from shaky to smooth lines in little time.
