The World’s Story from Masterbooks is a world history, Charlotte Mason-inspired curriculum for grades 6-8. Spanning three years, this series covers World History from The Ancients to the Modern Age from a Biblical perspective.
Each year contains a full-colour textbook that contains beautiful photographs, cultural connections, and maps. To accompany this, the Teacher Guide (or workbook) contains oral and written narration, craft ideas, research ideas for specific topics, map activities, copywork, review sections, and more.
This curriculum is designed to be completed in 30-45 minutes a day Monday through Friday. A materials list and calendar are provided for each year. A optional timeline for each book is also available.
World’s Story 1,2 & 3
We have used World’s Story by Angela O’Dell and MasterBooks for the last three years. We have appreciated the ease of use and flexibility. We chose what to add or not complete for the additional activities. This way it wasn’t too much in a week. The texts read more like and informational chapter book than a textbook. Both of our children loves reading the content. Our oldest loves writing and researching, so she completed more of the additional activities. She really enjoyed World Story 2 and the Medieval times. Our youngest has been reading the text and answering the questions in video versus writing and it’s amazing what she’s remembering! Like a journalist reporting on actual events. We love the connection between Biblical history and general history. Even today something came up in a Math course and applies to some of the content that’s as in World’s story 1. There is a wide range of additional activities you can choose to complete individually or as a family.
My only suggestion would be that they made an audio version. Even having the text read while the child is following along, like the Apologia science curriculum.
We loved it!
